Over 30% of our clients live outside of Mesa or Chandler, so you are very welcome to come to any of our VITA sites for tax preparation.

Azura is now recruiting volunteers to help prepare tax returns during the coming tax season. Training begins in mid-November and tax season runs the last week of January thru mid-April. Becoming a volunteer tax preparer is an educational and rewarding service. With your help, we plan to prepare thousands of tax returns for families in the East Valley and help them secure millions of dollars in tax refunds. Training starts in mid-November. Mesa United Way has evolved over more than 100 years from its origin as the Mesa Welfare League in 1921. During this time, it has significantly expanded to provide multiple services throughout Maricopa County and beyond. For instance, less than 50% of our tax clients are residents of the City of Mesa.

During 2023 AZURA has been incorporated as a new nonprofit organization to serve all of the residents of Arizona. Mesa United Way will continue to remain as a subsidiary of AZURA. We will continue to provide and expand VITA services to all members of our expanding community under the new AZURA name.

Mesa United Way is an active member of CAVN (Central Arizona VITA Network). This group of VITA programs cooperates in outreach, promotion, volunteer recruitment, and training. They also share best practices, information, and other resources for the common good of their VITA programs. Mesa United Way is one of six VITA programs serving Maricopa County and the surrounding area. The others are managed by the City of Phoenix, Tempe Community Council, A New Leaf (covering the West Valley), Rehoboth CDC (Glendale), and Masters of Coin (Scottsdale).
